Will baking soda harm car A/C?

My car has a sour smell whenever you turn the AC on after it hasn't been used for a few hours. Somewhat like vinegar. It goes away after around 5 minutes, but it really is bad.

I've just finished shampooed the car seats so they'll have a good scent, coz they used to smell slightly bad as well, but now it's only the air conditioner that's the problem.

It's a bit rainy, so I suspect it's mould. I've tried turning the A/C to the hottest temperature for 3-5 minutes and then doing the same on cold, as I've read here. But it still comes back.

Here where I live, there aren't much odor removal sprays and other products. They're pretty hard to find. I'm planning to have this checked but I really don't have the time these days.

I'm thinking of spraying a baking soda plus water solution into the air conditioner vents. Can it harm the lining or surfaces inside? I just wanna be sure.

Thanks in advance (:

This is a common complaint, a/c smells bad, stale, etc. Spraying a disinfectant into the duct will help a great deal.

Not sure mixing baking soda with water will do the trick, but any other household disinfectant or air freashner will.

If you are really stuck on the baking soda, it won't harm anything. When it dries the soda will turn back into a powder and could blow out when teh system is turned on. And this could irritate your eyes.

A few laundry questions, re: stain removal?

Ok, just wanna see if anyone out there knows any good products or even natural remedies for these stains:
*Craft/ wood paint on a skirt which is made of a soft polyester netting type material
*Blood on a cotton pillowcase
*Mould on a stretchy cotton material dress
*Unidentified orange/yellow stains on several hand-me down children's clothes from friends!

Someone told me lemon juice will get the mould off the dress, I tried this but it didn't get it all off.
Also I've tried a few brands of spray-on pre wash stain removers and I think it was white king powder (mix it with water to make a paste) but they didn't work either

For blood on a cotton pillowcase: apply hydrogen peroxide & cold water. Do not expose to hot water until the blood is entirely gone.
Mould will probably not come out. Try bleach.
orange/yellow stains on hand me downs could be due to age. Start with cold water and experiment with other items one at a time. There are pb books available on how to clean just about everything.
The paint? depends on the type of paint. If it's water based your ok. If not the cleaning solvent needed will likely destroy the polyester.

I am starting a mold removal project in an old home and was told that 7% Hydrogen peroxide is one of the best products to use. Does anyone know if this is true.

There are products out there that contain Tri sodium Phosphate. (TSP) . It is made to clean mold and mildew from cement surfaces prior to painting or sealing. Usually comes in a 1 to 3 pound box as a granulation. Mix with water and apply as directed. Cost is small, maybe 4 bucks per box. Now, if you are trying to treat black mold, that is a different story. Having said that, there are plenty of crooks wanting to sell you a program to get rid of black mold for 5-10K per house. Don't fall for it.Check with experts that don't provide the service and find out for sure.

Finding the Right Mold Solutions

mold Finding the Right Mold SolutionsIf you are handling the problem of mould, you ought to know it isn't a hopeless thing to get shot of. There are mould solutions that will help you erase the offending fungi and defensive methods to help to keep it away. The right cleaner for your mildew problem depends on one or two factors. One is where the mould is found.

There are that many different areas of the home where you can find mildew, but all of them have one thing in common and that's enough moisture to permit mold to grow. If mould spores land on a dry area they can't grow.

For mould in the fridge, toss out any food which has been sitting longer than one or two days. Take everything out, unplug the chiller and give the interior a good washing with a bleach and water solution. For annoying areas you could need a scrub brush. Wash the cleaned areas with water till all residue of mildew and bleach is gone, and make use of old towels to totally dry your fridge. From there, you can plug in your chiller back in and replace the superlative food. Bleach is a major mould killer, and can be employed in lavatories, kitchens, basements and other areas though you may wish to add a little bit of detergent and mix the solution with water so it won't be abrasive. Also, always wear gloves when you're cleaning with bleach or any other sort of mildew solution. When talking of mould, bleach not only helps melt it but also cleanses the area. As it can release poisonous smoke, ensure you use it in a well-ventilated area. After cleaning any area that was influenced by mould, ensure the area is dried as speedily as possible and kept dry. There are more mildew solutions that may be bought, however for large infestations it is a very good idea to hire a pro crew to lose the mildew in your house. This is particularly the case with black mould, the most harmful of mould types.

The best move to make is attack your mold problem as quickly as you notice it, so it doesn't spread and take over your house. Mildew can be a little problem that will quickly multiply into an enormous one if not sorted in a punctual fashion.

we bought our first house 2 yrs ago, and recently we have started doing some work on it, fixing the bathrooms, etc. and we have found that EVERY room in our home has black mold on it. it is a 1987 doublewide. does anyone have any advise on what to do about this? mold removal products wont work, there is just too much mold. and its just too much sheetrock to replace. and ideas??
the mold is on the INSIDE of the sheetrock, not the outside, so there is no way we can spray it with bleach/water. i have tried it once before and it didnt do any good.
i guess im not explaining myself right? we dont see the black mold until we cut into the sheetrock. its on the inside of the walls not the side you paint

A few points; first you definitely want to have the house inspected by an environmental consultant who deals with or specialized in mold sampling and remediation. The consultant should take some tape life samples for spore culture and bulk samples and the consultant should take a spore trap sample in the rooms to verify level and type of spores in the rooms. You can find a list of local environmental consultants in http://iaqa.org. If the mold is toxic mold then you will have to have it taken care of.

Using a bleach and other chemicals even diluted is actually Not what you should use when dealing with mold. To find out more information on why not to use bleach or chemicals to remove mold check out this link:

Also I would not recommend contacting the EPA. If you do and there is toxic mold (Stachybotrys chartarum) depending on the level the EPA would actually evict you from your home and if the levels were bad enough they could burn the home down with everything in it including all of your cloths and any vehicles you have. They have done this in the past.

In the site listed above: http://moldrx4u.com Dr. Close Ph.D, P.E. has discovered a new anti-fungal agent that kills mold in the air and on surfaces and has found it very effective in the remediation of mold. There is a lot of information on this site about toxic mold and what you can do about it.

Wipe away mildew

When you want to remove mildew stains, reach for white vinegar first. It can be safely used without additional ventilation and can be applied to almost any surface --bathroom fixtures and tile, clothing, furniture, painted surfaces, plastic curtains, and more. To eliminate heavy mildew accumulations, use it full strength. For light stains, dilute it with an equal amount of water. You can also prevent mildew from forming on the bottoms of rugs and carpeting by misting the backs with full-strength white vinegar from a spray bottle.

Shine ceramic tiles

If soap scum or water spots have dulled the ceramic tiles around your sink or bath, bring back the brightness by scrubbing them with 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1/2 cup ammonia, and 1/4 cup borax mixed in 1 gallon (3.7 liters) warm water. Rinse well with cool water and let air-dry

Shine up your shower doors

To leave your glass shower doors sparkling clean -- and to remove all of those annoying water spots -- wipe them down with a cloth dipped in a solution of 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1 cup ammonia, and 1/4 cup baking soda mixed in 1 gallon (3.7 liters) warm water.

Fight mold and mildew

To remove and inhibit bathroom mold and mildew, pour a solution of 3 tablespoons white vinegar, 1 teaspoon borax, and 2 cups hot water into a clean, recycled spray bottle and give it a few good shakes. Then spray the mixture on painted surfaces, tiles, windows, or wherever you see mold or mildew spots. Use a soft scrub brush to work the solution into the stains or just let it soak in.

Good Luck !
